Home Free Concerts
To entertain, educate and enthrall young people with classical music!  This is the mission of this monthly series of FREE Young Persons’ Concerts at Pequot Library in Southport, Connecticut.   Performed by extraordinary, prize-winning soloists and ensembles, especially selected for their musicianship and their skill in working with young audiences, the concerts regularly attract enthusiastic, SRO audiences.   

Initiated in 1994 as a cooperative endeavor of Music for Youth and Pequot Library, the concerts continue today to receive the generous support of the historic Library and the use of its acoustically outstanding recital hall and its storied Steinway grand piano.

The programs offer engaging performances of classical music and, from time to time, music from faraway lands.  All programs are designed with children in mind.  

The season, which runs from September through May, offers a variety of programming: soloists playing piano, violin, cello, etc.; string quartets; piano trios; brass or wind quintets, as well as traditional music from other cultures, such as Chinese opera, taiko drumming from Japan, music from the Andes, from Cameroon, from the Carpathian Mountains.

Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Avenue in Southport, Connecticut, is the usual setting for the concerts, although some concerts take place across the street from the Library at Trinity Church, 651 Pequot Avenue.  All concerts are on Saturday afternoons at 2pm. (See VENUES for details and directions.)

All concerts are free; no tickets or reservations are required for attending – just bring a child.  Concert length is approximately 50 minutes.  The programs are appropriate for ages 5 to 17.  They include audience participation and the chance for a few lucky children to win door prizes.
