Home Master Classes
Master Classes are an empowering experience for young music students who attend the FREE Young Persons’ Concerts, giving them the opportunity to have their playing critiqued by a professional artist, as well as the opportunity to perform before an appreciative audience.

Advance registration is required, but students of all ages and ability levels are accepted.  Each student has the chance to play a five minute selection, followed by the artist’s advice regarding technique, musical expression, etc.  A rewarding experience for all concerned, many members of the general audience remain to observe the master classes in their entirety.

Master classes are scheduled after most Young Persons’ Concerts.  During the 2010/2011 season seven Master Class sessions are offered.

In past seasons many notable artists have given master classes, including: violinists Nicolas Kendall, Rachel Barton Pine, Jennifer Koh and Joseph Genualdi; pianists Adam Neiman, Andrius Zlabys, Simone Dinnerstein, Vassilis Varvaresos and Di Wu: clarinetist Jose Franch-Ballester; cellist Clancy Newman; the Modigliani, Jupiter and Carducci String Quartets; the Claremont and the Corinthian Piano Trios, the Knights Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin.

Thank you so much for the wonderful David Aaron Carpenter concert.  I was in the master class and he helped me a lot with the Walton Viola Concerto.

Thank you for inviting us to play on your series.  It’s so wonderful that you focus on young people.  Your youth audience is one of the most enthusiastic we’ve ever encountered.  And it was great to work with so many kids one-on-one in the master classes.  It’s really a special program you’ve created and we felt honored to be part of it.”
