Vassily and Konstantin were both born in Moscow, began music studies at an early age and later at the legendary Moscow Central Special Music School.
Vassily began his American career after winning First Prize at the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 2002. Highly praised debut recitals followed. He has since performed with leading orchestras throughout the U.S. and abroad, while studying at Juilliard with Jerome Lowenthal. Juilliard gave him the prestigious Petschek Piano Recital Award with a debut recital at Alice Tully Hall.
Featured on the cover of the June 2009 International Record Review as “a pianist of first rank,” his recordings of Beethoven Sonatas and Chopin Concertos received rave reviews. “The playing is lyrical, sensitive, yielding, subtle . . . This is a great Chopin pianist!” exclaimed David Starobin.
Konstantin’s career has followed a similar trajectory. He began piano studies at four, later entering the Moscow Central Special Music School. Before coming to the U.S. to study at Juilliard, he toured Europe concertizing in France, Italy, Romania, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. He received Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Juilliard, won the Arthur Rubenstein Prize and also the Petschek Award with a debut at Alice Tully Hall. He received his Artist Diploma while studying with Jerome Lowenthal.
Vassily and Konstantin have known each other since childhood, are good friends and have shared the stage and the piano many times before. Music for Youth is fortunate they have agreed to perform this extraordinary program for our Benefit.
The Benefit Concert is presented annually by Music for Youth to fund its many free programs, while offering the community an evening of wonderful classical music.
