Meet The Orchestra

Music for Youth and Pequot Library present the Meet the Orchestra Program
Meet the Percussion Family, Nov. 2019
Meet the Woodwinds, March, 2020
Meet the Strings, April, 2020

Over 2600 Bridgeport School students are exposed to the meet the Orchestra program during the school year.  Professionals travel to the schools for a pre-concert program after which students are bused for a full hour long concert at Pequot Library in Southport.

This year the Meet the Orchestra Program this year focuses on the "Science of Music"   We explore how sound is created, the impact caused by the "medium"  it moves through and the importance of the "receiver"  whose ear take in the sound, interprets and responds.  Preconcert lectures explore the sound wave and what happens when the decibel levels and pitch moves up and down. We explore the "miracle of hearing" and why our ears are important tools of survival.

The concerts reinforce the key items introduced in the preconcert programs focusing on how vibrations translate into music and how music making takes the listener on a  fantastic and journey through time and space.  Students are exposed to the percussion, string and woodwinds and they learn how each unique instrument creates their sound palette.

This program was made possible by a generous grant from the Cornelia T Bailey Foundation.
