AMY MACPHERSON WINS JERRY MALAFRONTE MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP

In June, Music for Youth, Inc. presented the 2006 Jerry Malafronte Music Scholarship to soprano Amy MacPherson, a senior at Fairfield's Ludlowe High School.  This scholarship, named for a lifelong Fairfield resident who cares deeply about music and young people, is presented annually to a senior in Fairfield who plkans to continue music studies in college.

The first vocalist to receive this award, Ms. MacPherson has been recognized for her singing talents throughout high school and during her twelve-year membership in the choir at Trinity Church, headed by Charles Dodsley Walker.  She also founded and directed an "a capella" ensemble for women called "Aria".

In the fall she will attend the University of Connecticut at Storrs where she plans to major in music.  Her goal is to further develop her talents so she may share her passion for music with others.

The Jerry Malafronte Music Scholarship was created in 1997 as a memorial to Mr. Malafronte, after his untimely death in an auto accident. It is determined each year by competitive auditions open to all Fairfield students who plan to study music at the college or conservatory level.  The first Scholarship was awarded in 1998 to violinist Gary Capozziello, who recently completed a Master's Degree program at the New England Conservatory.
