Benefit Concert
Twin sisters Emily Bruskin and Julia Bruskin formed the Claremont Trio with pianist Donna Kwong in 1999 at the Juilliard School. The trio is based in New York City, near their namesake: Claremont Avenue . In 2001 they won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and launched their touring career with an acclaimed New York debut at the 92nd Street Y. Since then they became the first recipients of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award, and have generated enthusiastic acclaim wherever they perform. Reviews call them “the freshest breath of air in the world of chamber music today”. They have toured all over the United States and in Europe, have been featured with orchestras such as the Utah, Virginia, and Pacific Symphonies, and have played in many great summer festivals, including Mostly Mozart, Caramoor, Ravinia, Bard, Norfolk, the Great Lakes Festival, and more. Their first CD of Mendelssohn trios was enthusiastically received, and their new CD featuring Shostakovich and Arensky has been described as “an inspiring, forceful performance”. The group plays the traditional trio repertoire as well as works by new composers such as Kirchner, Schoenfield, and Mason Bates. They are wonderful with young audiences as well, and were a huge success when they last performed in Music for Youth’s Young Persons’ Concerts, giving an exceptional concert and then inspiring many budding performers with individual master classes.
